The Hialeah Housing Authority will be Accepting Applications for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program
Only online pre-applications will be accepted.
Preliminary applications must be completed online beginning Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 12:01 a.m. and will close at 4:59 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
Notice is hereby given that the Hialeah Housing Authority (HHA) is accepting pre-applications for tenant-based vouchers through its Housing Choice Voucher (HCV or Section 8) Program.
Annual Income Limits for Program Participation
- 1 person - $47,700
- 2 persons - $54,500
- 3 persons - $61,300
- 4 persons - $68,100
- 5 persons - $73,550
- 6 persons - $79,000
- 7 persons - $84,450
- 8 persons - $89,900
HHA does not discriminate based on race, sex, color, religion, national origin, familial status, disability, age, or marital status.
To be placed on the waiting list, all applicants must meet all U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) income and eligibility requirements.
Applications will be available on the HHA website at https://waitlistcheck.com/FL1880 on July 22, 2026, at 12:01 a.m.
The following information is needed to successfully submit the pre-application: Full legal name, Social Security number, birth date, and income information for everyone in the household.
Submission of a pre-application does not guarantee placement on the waiting list. Due to the high level of interest in the voucher program, HHA will use a random lottery system to select 2,500 names from all pre-applications submitted, and those selected pre-applications will be placed on the waiting list. The date and time of pre-application receipt during the waiting list opening have no bearing on whether an application will be selected. There is no need or advantage to apply immediately after the waiting list opens. Those who do may experience slower response times from the online systems. Families will be listed on the waiting list in the order determined by their lottery selection.
Preferences
Selected families that meet the following preference criteria will be given preference points: 1) Elderly or Disabled; 2) Displacement due to a Federally Recognized Natural Disaster; 3) Moving Up; 4) Homelessness; 5) Jurisdiction; 6) Non-Elderly Disabled Applicants who are Transitioning out of institutional and Other Segregated Settings at Serious Risks of Institutionalization, Homeless or at Risk of Becoming Homeless; and 7) Person with Disabilities.
Only one application per household will be permitted. Families who submit more than one application will be disqualified; all multiple applications will be rejected. Applicants who make false statements to qualify for a preference will be removed from the waiting list. Please do not call the HHA for updates; you can check your application status on the website listed above to see whether it meets the program's criteria. Only selected families will receive a notification from the HHA.

What are the eligibility criteria for the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV or Section 8) Program?
Answer: Eligibility for a housing voucher is based on the total annual gross income and family size and is limited to US citizens and specified categories of non-citizens with eligible immigration status. Generally, the family's income may not exceed 50% of the median income for the county or metropolitan area where the family chooses to live.
When can I apply?

Can anyone apply to be on the waitlist?

How do I know if I successfully applied?
Answer: Your screen will display a confirmation number at the end of a successful submission. (Example: 1234567)
How many applicants will be chosen for the Lottery?
Answer: 2,500 applications from all successfully submitted pre-applications will be randomly selected.
How do I know if I was selected in the lottery?
Answer: All applicants/households selected in the lottery will be notified by mail. Being selected in the lottery does not mean you will be approved for assistance.
What could make me ineligible for the Section 8 Program?
Here are some of the reasons that would make you ineligible to be part of the program:
Criminal History:
The HHA screens all applicants' criminal history. Your application may be denied if it indicates you may not be a suitable tenant under the HHA's policies. Applicants are automatically rejected for certain crimes, including:
- Manufacturing and production of Methamphetamine in public housing or elsewhere
- Sex offenses requiring sex offender registration
While a criminal record will not automatically exclude an applicant from consideration, it is an important criterion. In determining eligibility, HHA will consider an applicant's arrest record and mitigating circumstances such as successful rehabilitation.
Immigration Status:
You do not need to be a United States citizen to apply for housing, but a family needs to have at least one member of the family composition who is either a citizen or has an eligible immigration status to receive housing assistance as per the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regulations.
Debt owed to a Public Housing Authority:
Any debt owed to the HHA or any public housing authority will prevent applicant households from successfully applying until the debt is repaid in full.
Previous termination from the program:
The HHA will deny applications if any household member has been terminated from any Section 8 program within the past five (5) years.
Failure to provide information:
The family fails to provide information that HHA or HUD determines is necessary.
False Information:
The family does not provide complete and accurate information.

Answer: No. There is never a fee to apply. Please do not provide any money or personal information to any organization that may contact you.
