Message from the Executive Director

Executive Director Julio Ponce I feel fortunate to be the Hialeah Housing Executive Director and be able to help our residents by keeping housing rental low and affordable in today's market. Together with our elected officials and representatives, we are working towards building and adding new affordable housing for our City. We are proud of the work of our elected officials and representatives who are actively advocating for our residents. I am grateful to our Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart, who has always advocated for the City of Hialeah since he was elected to Congress. Congressman Diaz-Balart made Villa Mariposa possible by securing 6.2M for this project, a brand-new elderly building in the heart of Hialeah, housing 83 low-income elderly families.

Thank you for reading this quarter's newsletter.

Julio Ponce
Executive Director

Message from our Congressman MarIo DIaz-Balart

Dear friends,

First and foremost, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for allowing me to represent you in Congress. One of the most rewarding aspects of this job is the ability to advocate on your behalf to ensure you have the necessary resources to live a healthy, safe, and comfortable life.

Throughout my time in Congress, I have worked diligently to ensure every individual has a place to call home. Last summer, I was honored to celebrate the grand opening of Hialeah Housing Authority's newest housing community, Villa Mariposa, which was made possible by funding I fought for as former Chairman and now Ranking Member of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee in Congress. As always, I am grateful to be in a position where I can help our communities prosper, and I will continue to ensure that this is always the case. I am thankful for the steadfast leadership of Hialeah Housing Director Julio Ponce and our local and state leaders, who work day in and day out to ensure our community is taken care of.

As Ranking Member, and former Chairman, of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee (THUD), I proudly included $27.4 billion in Rental Assistance, $8.45 billion for public housing, $3.3 billion for Community Development Block Grants, and $1.5 billion for the HOME Investment Partnerships Program in the Fiscal Year 2022 Congressional spending bills. I look forward to seeing these funds positively impact our community.

Sincerely,
Mario Diaz-Balart
Member of Congress

Mayor Esteban Bovo
