Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8/Housing Choice Voucher)
Housing Choice Voucher is the new name for Section 8. HHA currently has more than 4,870 vouchers. Families in the voucher program have the choice and responsibility to select their own housing location within HHA’s jurisdiction and with a landlord that is willing to accept vouchers. HCVP tenants will pay between 30% and 40% of their household income toward rent.
HHA has 12 different public housing sites with 1,217 apartments throughout the city of Hialeah. Eligible applicants are assigned to a specific Public Housing apartment dependent on family size and availability. When in Public Housing, residents will have the option to pay about 30% of their household income toward rent or a flat rent which is generally below the fair market rent for the area. Residents also have access to community development programs that provide assistance with education, job training, youth programs, health and wellness as well as many other programs.
