Hot Lunch

The Hialeah Housing Authority’s Hot Lunch program provides food and nutritional services to the senior citizens of Hialeah. The program provides seniors with a nutritionally balanced lunch five days a week and on holidays. The Hot Lunch program has two different programs: the congregate meals program and the home-delivered meals program. The congregate meals program allows seniors to come to a dining room and enjoy a hot meal in a friendly, communal environment. The purpose of the congregate meals program is to provide seniors with nutritious meals and a better quality of life by improving their social bonds.

The Hialeah Housing Authority has 11 congregate meal sites located in the city of Hialeah. Furthermore, the Hialeah Housing Authority also provides home-delivered meals to over 250 clients on a daily basis. At the present moment the program is currently providing meals to over 1,000 clients in both the congregate and home-delivered meal programs. The Hialeah Housing Authority receives funding through the Alliance for Aging by means of the OAA (Older Americans Act) Title III-C. The Hialeah Housing Authority is dedicated to remain compliant with all Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA) and Alliance for Aging requirements.

The main focus of this program is to provide congregate or home delivered meals and nutrition education services. Other services provided are as follows:

Menus

The Hot Lunch program implements menus for both congregate and home-delivered meals. Every meal is created annually by a registered dietician to meet the nutritional needs of an elderly person. Menus are approved by the Alliance for Aging. Every year the Hialeah Housing Authority’s Hot Lunch program conducts a client satisfaction survey to ask our participants how they rate the food quality and the overall service of the program. Based on the results of the survey the Hot Lunch program in combination with the registered dietician implements a menu that meets both the opinions of our participants and the standards set forth by the Alliance for Aging and DOEA.
