History
The Hialeah Housing Authority of the City of Hialeah, Florida was established on February 14, 1967, and is an unincorporated instrumentality of the City of Hialeah, duly organized and existing pursuant to the Florida Housing Authorities Law, Chapter 421 of the Florida Statutes.

Mrs. Evelyn Holland, wife of Major Sherman W. Holland, Jr., and a former Commissioner of the Hialeah Housing Authority, was very active in the community and political affairs, both locally and on a statewide basis. She was best known, in the Hialeah area as the person responsible for the establishment of the Hialeah Housing Authority and the construction of low-cost housing for Senior Citizens.

In 1970, her fellow Commissioners honored her by naming one of its Public Housing buildings after her, which is now known as Holland Hall, located at 555 East 1st Avenue, Hialeah, Florida. At the Groundbreaking Ceremony she was honored by Congressman William Lehman and State Senator Sherman Winn and given the key to the County by Commissioner Ed Stephenson, in addition to those testimonials to her by the late Mayor Henry Milander and City Officials. In 1974, John A. Hill, State Representative to the Florida House of Representatives appointed Evelyn F. Holland as his Administrative Assistant.

Five Housing Authority Commissioners govern the Hialeah Housing Authority; it has 150 employees in six main departments, Finance, Housing, Administration, Maintenance, Section 8 and Social Services with an annual operating budget of $20 million.
