| Alex Morales is a lifelong resident of the City of Hialeah. Alex has been married to Adalina since 1990. Together they have two children, David, 13 years old, and Edan, 10 years old.
Alex attended Dupuis Elementary School and Palm Springs Junior High School. In 1984 Alex graduated from Hialeah High School. Alex continued his education at the University of Miami where, in 1987, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics and Public Affairs. He then attended The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Alex completed his coursework in 1988, and returned to Hialeah to complete his thesis. He completed the thesis, which studied the partisan changes in Dade County politics from the late 1970's to the late 1980's, in the summer of 1989. In 1990 Alex received his Master of Arts degree from The Johns Hopkins University. During his school years, Alex worked in his parent's small business, a bakery located in West Hialeah. This gave Alex the opportunity to learn the responsibility and dedication needed to be successful. It also exposed Alex to the unique culture and traditions of the City of Hialeah, thus creating a sense of loyalty and belonging. In 1988, Alex volunteered for the senatorial campaign of, then State Representative, Roberto Casas. Roberto Casas ultimately won the election and appointed Alex to his staff. Alex served as a Legislative Assistant and gained experience in the legislative process in Tallahassee. He also gained valuable experience in constituent service. From helping to solve neighborhood concerns to addressing issues that could only be solved through legislative action, Alex learned how to serve as a resource to help people solve problems. In 1989, Alex was appointed to the City of Hialeah Code Enforcement Board. As a board member Alex had the opportunity to address many issues that affected the quality of life of the residents of Hialeah. After completing his thesis in the summer of 1989 and with the support of his family and friends, Alex decided to become a candidate for the Hialeah City Council. In November of 1989, Alex became the youngest member of the Hialeah City Council. Alex was re-elected in 1993 and again in 1997. During his tenure on the Hialeah City Council Alex has sponsored initiatives to prevent overcrowding in both residential and commercial areas. He has worked to ensure funding for the construction of new streets and the expansion and reconstruction of existing streets. He has pushed for the development of new parks. Alex has also helped create city sponsored housing programs for the elderly, and has worked to keep taxes low. Alex is also involved in various other community and civic activities including the Florida League of Cities and Knights of Columbus. Today, as Alex and Adalina raise their two sons in Hialeah, they are proud of the community they live in and are optimistic that the future will bring new and exciting opportunities for their children and all the children of Hialeah. |
